printing suitability informationAt Meridian Press we try to give the best advice as to the best printing machines for a specific printing job.To give you a better idea we've also created this simple guide to the differences between our different printing machines. What they're good at, and what they're not so good at.
If you are unsure about any of the information below, please feel free to contact us. You could also email or fax us a copy of a job and let us advise you of the best and most cost effective way to print it.
We are always happy to provide print and paper samples.
The digital duplicator is great for text and line drawings. It's okay for some photos but prints them with a coarse halftone. It's great for low cost leaflets, business stationery, carbonless sets, envelopes, newsletters etc. Although it is possible to use the digital duplicator for two colour printing, you can only do so if slight mis-alignment of the two colours does not affect the overall appearance of the printed job. So for instance a letter heading with a blue logo in the top left corner, and the address printed in black in the top right corner would be fine. If however the blue logo had a black keyline it would not be possible on the digital duplicator. The digital duplicator cannot print large areas of solid ink.
The xerox docucolour is a great machine. Overall print quality is superb. It can print on a huge range of different paper and card making it suitable for most print work where print quality is important, especially short run colour printing. The pricing system for the xerox is based on how many images we can place on an A3 size sheet. This means that the smaller the size of your print job, the more you will get for your money e.g. 1000 A6 size flyers are the same price 500 A5 flyers. Please note that any job printed using the xerox docucolour is not suitable for laser printing or photocopying
Our offset litho machines are great all round machines. They provide good print quality on a large range of papers and cards. Much better colour registration than the digital duplicator. The only negative points are that the print costs are more expensive than the digital duplicator due to the more complicated nature of the print process, and the turnaround time is much slower. We usually advise one week for litho, but 2-3 days for digital. Our small offset litho is also unsuitable for very large areas of solid ink.
